The new 2006 $10 Platinum Eagle that has been independently graded and certified as perfect MS-70 condition.  It is the highest graded coin possible.

The Platinum Eagle is the world’s most popular platinum bullion coin.

The Platinum Eagle is a genuine legal tender platinum bullion coin struck by the United States Mint.  It has been made each year since 1997 in a limited edition and is now the world’s most popular platinum bullion coin.

Minted in .9995 pure platinum, the Platinum Eagle is a legal tender coin and is among the most sought-after – and rarest – official U.S. Mint issues.  The coin features a stunning portrait of the Statue of Liberty’s face on the front and a soaring American eagle on the back.

Platinum is about 60 times rarer than gold, and there is a worldwide shortage due to the demand for platinum in computers, medical instruments, and other high-tech items.  As a result, the U.S. Mint is one of only a handful of mints that is able to secure enough platinum to strike official legal tender coins.

The coin offered here is the 1/10-ounce version;  it has a $10 face value.  It is legal tender, but the face value is nominal because the coin obviously has a far greater platinum value and collector value.

Platinum is the perfect metal for coinage, but it is rarely seen both because of its legendary rarity and because it is so hard that it is a time-consuming process to make even one coin.  Each coin must be struck multiple times under very high pressure to bring out the designs (regular coins made for circulation are struck only once at low pressure, and even Proof coins are struck just twice).  All coins are graded on a 70-point scale, with 70 being absolute perfection.  It is virtually impossible to find a coin like this in perfect MS-70 – and it is literally impossible to find a better coin.  The coin grading company has no connection with HSN or with FCM, so it is a totally impartial opinion.  The coin is also encapsulated in a tamper-proof holder to protect its condition for the future.

The coin is delivered in a deluxe wooden collector’s case.
