• This set features the fifth Presidential Dollar overall – and the first of 2008.
• It features James Monroe, the fifth President.
• The coins celebrate each non-living U.S. President on a unique golden Dollar coin.
• Each coin is a legal tender Dollar coin struck at the U.S. Mint.
• Each coin is issued in a limited edition of only about three months before production starts on the next coin.
• Monroe fought in the American Revolution, was Governor of Virginia, and served as minister to France and Britain for Presidents Washington and Jefferson.
• In 1816, Monroe was elected President. He was reelected in 1820.
• As President he created the Monroe Doctrine which opposed European interference in the New World.
• The coin is in Brilliant Uncirculated condition and is richly layered in pure 24 karat gold.
• The gold layering is done privately, as the U.S. Mint does not have the capacity to layer coins.
• Just a tiny fraction of all Presidential Dollars will be layered in gold for this collection.
• In addition to the coin, the set includes a historic U.S. stamp.
• The stamp was issued December 5, 1947, to honor the dedication of Everglades National Park in Florida.
• Monroe obtained Florida from Spain in 1819.
• The set comes in a custom display wallet with details of Monroe’s life, as well as a Certificate of Authenticity.
• There is one coin and one stamp in the collection. The coin is composed of .770 copper, .070 manganese, and .040 nickel, then layered in pure 24 karat gold.
