This collection features four historic American coins that display different images of Liberty. They date from the classic “Liberty” era before Presidential portraits were placed on coins.

• The 1859-1909 Indian Head Penny was one of the first U.S. coins to feature a Native American image.  It depicts Liberty wearing a Native American headdress.

• The 1883-1912 Liberty “V” Nickel features a famous portrait of Liberty on the obverse and a large “V” (to represent 5 cents) on the reverse.

• Both the Indian Head Penny and Liberty “V” Nickel were last made over 100 years ago.

• The 1916-1945 Mercury Silver Dime features Liberty in a winged cap to represent freedom of thought.

• The Standing Liberty Silver Quarter shows Liberty standing with a shield (symbolizing defense) in one hand and an olive branch (symbolizing peace) in the other.

• Both the Mercury Silver Dime and Standing Liberty Silver Quarter were struck in 90% silver.
