The Eisenhower Dollar was America's last large-size Dollar coin ever minted for circulation. It was minted only from 1971-1978 and is a treasured piece of American history. In addition to regular coins for circulation, the U.S. Mint also made a small number of Brilliant Uncirculated coins for collectors in .400 silver.

Standard Eisenhower Dollars for circulation were made in copper-nickel. The regular silver coins were made only from 1971-1974. The .400 silver coins in Brilliant Uncirculated condition were available only in blue packaging. As a result, these historic Silver Dollars are known as Blue Ikes.

All Blue Ikes were struck at the San Francisco Mint and bear the coveted S mint mark on the obverse, above the date. Blue Ikes were not released into circulation but were made only for collectors.

The Blue Ikes were the first .400 Silver Dollars in history. The obverse of the coin features Dwight D. Eisenhower, the World War II hero and U.S. President from 1953-1961. The reverse is an adaptation of the official Apollo 11 mission patch; it shows an American eagle landing on the moon, with the Earth above its head. The coin is in original Brilliant Uncirculated condition.

The last Blue Ike was available from the U.S. Mint over four decades ago.
