The Susan B. Anthony Dollar was first issued in 1979 and was intended as a replacement for the dollar bill, since coins are more cost-effective in the long term than paper currency. This was the first small size dollar coin, and was struck for 4 years, 1979-1981 and 1999 and is one of the shortest-lived coins in U.S. history. The Susan B. Anthony Dollar was America’s first silver-colored small-size Dollar coin and the first regular-issue coin to feature an identifiable woman: Susan B. Anthony (1820-1906), the woman’s rights pioneer whose work led to the 19th Amendment to the Constitution in 1920 that assures women the right to vote.
The $2 Bill first appeared in 1862 and prior to 1928, was a large sized banknote. In 1976, the $2 Bill was reissued, again, as a cost saving measure, and were partially redesigned and reissued as a Federal Reserve Note (green seal.)The $2 Federal Reserve Note is America’s first and only commemorative bank note design. Like all modern Federal Reserve Notes, it has a green seal. In addition to Jefferson on the front, the $2 Federal Reserve Note depicts the painting “The Signing of the Declaration of Independence” by John Trumbull on the back. $2 bills are almost never seen in circulation, but they are fascinating notes that are always popular with collectors.
