19th & 20th Century Indian Head Pennies 1

This collection features two classic United States Indian Head Pennies one from the 19th century, and one from the 20th century both over 100 years old.

The Indian Head Penny is one of the most cherished of all United States coins, but it is now long out of issue and is a treasured addition to any collection. The Indian Head Penny was minted from 1859-1909. It depicts an Indian princess in a war bonnet and was one of the first U.S. coins to feature a Native American.ÂAccording to legend, designer James B. Longacre actually used a portrait of his daughter, Sarah, wearing an Indian headdress. It is a symbol of Americas westward expansion, as well as a moving tribute to Native Americans in U.S. history.

The first Indian Head Penny in this collection is guaranteed to date between 1859 and 1899. The second coin was minted between 1900 and 1909 (when it was replaced with the Lincoln Penny), both are therefore over 100 years old. All Indian Head Pennies are sought-after by todays collectors because of their age, beauty, and scarcity. These coins have not been seen in circulation for almost a century, and it is very unusual to find a collection like this that includes a coin from both the 19th and 20th centuries.  An affordable and unique way to introduce a beginner to coin collecting!
