Last 3 Eisenhower Dollars - with a Free First Year of Issue Susan B. Anthony Dollar

The Eisenhower Dollar was issued from 1971 to 1978 and was Americas last large-size Dollar coin ever minted for circulation.   It was replaced with the Susan B. Anthony Dollar in 1979.

This set includes the last three years of issue - 1976, 1977 and 1978. A special one-time-only coin was issued in 1976 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. This was the first commemorative Dollar coin issued for circulation. The obverse of this coin has the dual dates 1776-1976.The reverse has a unique design showing the moon and the Liberty Bell to symbolize 200 years of American history from the American Revolution to the space age. On the 1977 & 1978 coins, the obverse features a portrait of Dwight D. Eisenhower, the World War II hero and U.S. President from 1953-1961.

The regular reverse shows an eagle landing on the moon and carrying an olive branch to symbolize Americas peaceful conquest of space. It is an adaptation of the Apollo 11 mission patch from 1969.

Also included is the first year of issue Susan B. Anthony Dollar. The Anthony Dollar was first minted in 1979 and was Americas first small-size Dollar coin. It was also the first circulating coin to feature an identifiable woman. It depicts Susan B. Anthony (1820-1906), the woman's rights pioneer whose work led to the 19th Amendment to the Constitution that assures women the right to vote. The reverse is an adaptation of the official Apollo 11 mission patch; it shows an American eagle landing on the moon, with the Earth above its head.
