The coincidences in the tragic deaths of Abraham Lincoln and John F. Kennedy are eerily similar, even though they were separated by nearly 100 years.

A list of the amazing coincidences is featured in this remarkable collection, along with historic out-of-issue U.S. coins honoring both Lincoln and Kennedy.

Lincoln was President during the Civil War. He became 16th President of the United States in 1861, and his major accomplishments included the Gettysburg address on November 19, 1863, and the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863 that freed the slaves in Confederate states. He won a second term as President, but shortly before the end of the Civil War he was shot at Fords Theatre in Washington, D.C. He died on April 15, 1865.

The Lincoln Penny was first minted in 1909 as a tribute to Lincoln. It was the first circulating coin to feature a historical figure instead of the allegorical figure of Liberty. This collection includes two Lincoln Pennies: an original coin minted from 1909-1958 with the classic wheat ears reverse and the coin struck since 1959 with the Lincoln Memorial on the reverse. The Lincoln Memorial Penny is very special, because it was the first coin to show the same person on both sides (a small statue of Lincoln can be been on the reverse).

Kennedy became 35th President in 1961, and one of his major policies was Civil rights. He also established the Peace Corps, denounced the Berlin Wall, and inspired the manned space program that eventually led to America placing the first man on the moon. On November 22, 1963, Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas.

The Kennedy Half Dollar was first minted in 1964 as a tribute to Kennedy. The portrait was first used on his official Inaugural Medal in 1961, and the design of the coin was personally approved by Jacqueline Kennedy, the Presidents widow.

This collection includes two JFK Half Dollars. Each of these coins has been richly layered in pure 24 karat gold and are featured in a custom coin wallet with a Certificate of Authenticity. In addition to the coins, the display also lists all the amazing coincidences in the lives and deaths of the two Presidents.
