The Last American Nickels

This collection features four classic last-year-of-issue Nickels that were issued by the U.S. Mint.

The collection starts with the 1912 Liberty Head Nickel, the last coin in the Liberty Head series that started in 1883.

This coin was struck over 100 years ago and is the key to the collection.

It was made in an edition that was more than 40 times smaller than a modern Nickel – and most were worn out in circulation or destroyed by the U.S. Treasury when they were replaced with the Buffalo Nickel.

The 1938 Buffalo Nickel was the last coin in this series. The Buffalo Nickel is one of America’s iconic coins, with its classic portrait of a Native American and an image of a buffalo.

Like the Liberty Head Nickel, most Buffalo Nickels disappeared long ago.

The Jefferson Nickel replaced the Buffalo Nickel; in World War II, the coin was struck in 35% silver in order to make nickel available for the war effort. The last-ever Silver Nickel was made in 1945, and this coin is included in the collection. This was the last coin in the only Silver Nickel series in U.S. history.

Due to its silver content, millions of these coins have been melted over the years.

The original Jefferson Nickel series ended in 2003. The design by sculptor Felix Schlag features a portrait of Thomas Jefferson and Jefferson’s home at Monticello.

The Jefferson Nickel series continued, but with different designs, making this the last of the original coins.

The four different Nickel designs have been out of issue for up to 100 years and more.

Owning just one of these coins is a collector’s dream, but to own all four final-year coins in a single collection like this is a rare accomplishment.

The collection is presented in a protective coin wallet with narrative about the design and history of the coins, and it is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
