Launched in 1999, the United States Mint's 50 State Quarters Program was a 10-year initiative that honored each of the nation's states in the order that they ratified the Constitution or were admitted into the Union. Â Each quarter was produced for about 10 weeks and will never be produced again. Â State designs are displayed on the reverse (tails) of the quarters, while the obverse design displays the familiar image of George Washington. Â A proof coin is a coin struck using a special, high-quality minting process, and made especially for collectors. Modern proof coins are struck twice on special polished dies and have mirror-like fields and frosted devices. 1999 contains the first 5 State quarters ever issued, 2000 features the first Sacagawea Golden Dollar. Â Year 2004 through 2006 contain the complete Westward Journey nickel collection. 2007 also includes the first four Presidential Dollar series and 2009 showcases the four Lincoln pennies designed to commemorate Lincoln's 200th birthday. This is the complete set of Silver State Quarter Proof Sets. Â Made only available to collectors, the diems, quarters and half dollars are struck in 90% silver. These sets are in original government packaging as pristine as the day the were first released to the public. This set of 10 silver proof sets contain every coin issued that year as well as notable firsts. Â This is a historic collection, made even more valuable by its 90% silver content.
