Barber Quarter Mint Mark Collection 1
The Barber Quarter was struck by the U.S. Mint from 1892-1916, so every coin is now over 100 years old.  Each coin was struck in 90% pure silver. The coin is known as the Barber Quarter because it was created by Charles E. Barber, who was Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint and was one of the most famous and prolific coin designers in United States Mint history. The obverse depicts Liberty with a triple headdress of cap, laurel wreath, and a tiny coronet inscribed with the word Liberty symbols of freedom and liberty. The reverse shows the denomination within a wreath of corn and wheat to symbolize agriculture, maple leaves to represent civic rule, and oak leaves to indicate military power the three great traditions that built America in the 19th century when this coin was first issued. The Barber series of silver coins from the late 1800s to the early 1900s was the last family of silver coins that featured similar designs; the portrait of Liberty also appeared on Barber Dimes and Half Dollars. During its short life, the Barber Silver Quarter was struck at the U.S. Mints in Philadelphia, Denver, San Francisco, and New Orleans. The different coins can be identified by the small mint mark on the reverse. The coin from Denver has a small D mint mark below the wreath on the reverse, San Francisco's coin has an S mint mark, New Orleans coin has an O mint mark and the coin from Philadelphia has no mint mark. This collection brings together the four Barber Silver Quarters from these four U.S. Mints. Together, they make a fabulous collection that features the complete mint mark collection.  The most sought-after coin is the one from New Orleans, a long-gone U.S. Mint facility that closed in 1909. New Orleans coins are becoming almost impossible to find today.  Barber Quarters have been out of circulation for over a century, and millions have been melted for the silver over the years leaving few for todays collectors.  The four-coin collection is housed in a custom display and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.
