The Lincoln Penny was first minted in 1909 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s birth. It was the first circulating coin to feature a real person instead of Lady Liberty. The obverse features a portrait of Lincoln by sculptor Victor D. Brenner. The reverse of the coin until 1958 was the legendary “wheat ears” design.
This roll features 49 genuine classic Lincoln “wheat ears” Pennies. These coins have been out of issue for nearly half a century. All coins are dated between 1909 and 1958.
The roll is also guaranteed to include a 1943 Steel Penny. The 1943 coin was an emergency World War II issue made of steel instead of copper. It is the first and only steel coin in U.S. history.
The “wheat ears” design was replaced with the Lincoln Memorial on the reverse in 1959. The Lincoln Penny is the longest-running coin in U.S. history. The coins come in a roll with a Certificate of Authenticity.
